The history of Russia, as Soviet Union, in World War 2 is still under revision. In the initial years after World War 2, the Russia's role in the war in between 1939 and the end of 1941 was basically based on a combination of the rigorously censored Russian state propaganda's report and of what was known outside Russia, which stood behind the "Iron Curtain" of the Cold War.

Eventually, two new factors granted new insights and new proofs which allow a revision that let us get much near to the reality of what really happened in World War 2.
The primary factor was the vast and laborious work of a few open-minded 2nd generation autonomous researchers like Viktor Suvorov and Mark Solonin. They applied analytic approaches to the vast scope of publicly available Russian wartime and post-war documentation and literature, detected many small details of facts that slipped over the years through the Soviet censorship, and processed these into coherent new insights that dramatically changed our opinion of what really happened, both before the German attack, and after it commenced.

But despite of all that, the truth is that Russian WW2 Militaria are great to collect and appreciate.
